All Faculty: 7 Steps to Success Using TurningPoint Cloud

1. Notify the Bookstore
Tell the URI Bookstore your class will use TurningPoint when you put in your book order at the University Bookstore, (Paul Whitney, (401) 874-5224) or add the clicker info in the Comment section of the Bookstore online form.

2. Find Your Turning Point Cloud Channel
Identify the assigned TurningPoint Channel for your classroom from: Kingston-Turning Point Channel Room Assignments.

3. Add Turning Point Cloud to your syllabus:

4. Prepare for the first day of class
Read the Getting Started with TurningPoint Cloud First Day of Class Materials which includes

  • Syllabus Suggestions
  • How to transition to TP Cloud.

Note: Incorporating some of these materials into your first day of class each semester will help your students understand the need to be prepared to participate in your class

Turning Technologies recommends that you download and use/add to your PowerPoint presentation the ‘First Day Slides’ for ‘Classes Using Clickers and LMS’.

5. Get your computer software ready
If you previously created an account for ResponseWare at this site – continue to use that account. If not, create your secure account at:

https://account.turningtechnologies.com/account/

6. Log into your Turning Account
Download the TurningPoint Cloud software from the left menu. [NOTE: The No-install version would be for use on a flash drive.]

To avoid confusion, if you previously used TurningPoint 5, remember to uninstall it on your laptops and remove aliases from your desktop or dock before you download TurningPoint Cloud.

7. Get your Sakai course site ready

Using the Site Info tool, add:

  • ‘Turning Technologies’
  • ‘TurningPoint Cloud’

Both tools must be added for TurningPoint Cloud to work with our current Sakai version (2.9).
Next, hide the Turning Technologies Tool:

  • Once you have added both tools, go to ‘Site Info’ (left menu)
  • Choose ‘Page Order’ (top menu)
  • Click on the box for the Turning Technologies tool
  • Click on the light bulb so it turns blue instead of yellow.

Once you've completed this procedure, Sakai will look italicize the tool name in the left column. This signifies that only the instructor or TA can see it--it is totally absent from the student view.

Review this NEW document: Sakai and TurningPoint Cloud (pdf). This document covers Downloading and Using a Downloaded Participant List, Updating a Participant List, Exporting a Session to Sakai, with information specific to URI.

Resources

If you forget your receiver on a class day, you can check out a daily loaner at Classroom Media Assistance (Lower Library Room 4), 874-4278.

If your TAs need to use TurningPoint Cloud in their sections, you may sign out a receiver for them (in your name) for an entire semester.
