Borrowing Equipment

Equipment listed below may be borrowed from the LLRC in Swan Hall, Room 301. All equipment check-outs are made for a period of three days or fewer.

To borrow equipment, students must show a valid URI student ID. Names and URI ID numbers are matched against our computer records. If a name/number does not match what is in our system, equipment will not be issued.

A summary of equipment available to all URI students is listed below. There are also cameras and other equipment available to the general student population of URI and the Harrington School of Communication, as well as equipment available to students in Film Studies Production courses.

Renewing a Reservation

If at the end of the rental period, a student has not finished his/her work that requires this equipment, the student may renew the reservation if all the following conditions are met:

  1. The equipment is returned to the LLRC before it is due (renewals cannot be made over the phone).
  2. There are no conflicting reservations on the equipment for the extended period being requested or there are no names on the waiting list for that equipment.
  3. The student borrowing the equipment does not have a hold placed against them in the rental system for previous late returns.
Late Return Policy

Please read the CMA Service Level Agreement.

It is important to return equipment on time because other students may have reservations and need the equipment to complete their own homework assignments. The following policy applies to ALL students who borrow equipment from the LLRC:

One Day Late: no rentals for a week

Two Days Late: no rentals for 2 weeks

Three Days Late: no rentals for a month

Four Days Late OR Two Late Returns: no rentals for the remainder of the semester

Seven Days Late: Campus Police will contact the student to request equipment. If it is not returned, Student Affairs will then put a hold on the student account until the equipment is either returned in good-working order OR the current value of that equipment is remitted.

Failure to return equipment impacts future reservations made by other individuals. We request that equipment is returned on time to accommodate other users.

  • Repeated late returns of equipment will result in loss of equipment privileges.

  • In the case of faculty late returns, the department chair will be contacted if the instructor fails to return equipment in a timely manner. Failure to return equipment results in its loss through negligence, that instructor will lose privileges for the remainder of the semester.

IMPORTANT: ALL EQUIPMENT NOT RETURNED SEVEN DAYS AFTER ITS RETURN DATE WILL BE REPORTED TO THE CAMPUS POLICE.
Campus Police will contact the student to request its return. If it is not returned, the matter will be turned over to Student Affairs. Student Affairs will then put a hold on the student account until the equipment is either returned in good-working order OR the current value of that equipment is remitted.

The current value equals the purchase price of the equipment minus depreciation based on age.

A hold will prevent a student from registering for classes and from obtaining a transcript or diploma.

Broken Equipment or Equipment That is Missing Parts

Students are required to return equipment with all its parts in good-working order. Any equipment that is returned broken or damaged may be billed to the student by the Information Technology Services. All students should check that the equipment inventory is complete before leaving the Library and that the equipment is in good working order.

The LLRC is not responsible for any personal belongings or media left with the equipment. It is important to make sure you have removed any media (tapes or personal hard drives) from the equipment before it is returned. If the equipment is subsequently checked out to another student, any media may be inadvertently erased.
